This is a photograph showing the results of a typical restoration of an obliterated serial number. What makes this case unusual is that the firearm involved in this particular crime was the theft of an antique Winchester model 1873 rifle. This rifle was nicknamed the "Yellow Boy" for its distinctive brass receiver.
The photograph below shows an obliterated serial number on a
Remington Wingmaster model 870 which could be read under proper lighting
after restoration.
